  The Sinharaja forest is the only undisturbed rainforest left in Sri Lanka. It is about 9000 hectares in extent. Many of the plants are very rare. Over 60% of the tree species are found only in the lowland wet zone of Sri Lanka. If these species of trees were allowed to get destroyed , the world would lose them altogether. So it is important that much effort is made to conserve this rich, valuble and fragile habitat.  The Sinharaja rainforest is the largest rainforest reserve in Sri Lanka. In 1840 Sinharaja became a crown property. In 1988 the Sinharaja was made a National Wilderness area. In 1989 UNESCO included the SInharaja Forest in the World Heritage list, as the first National Heritage of Sri Lanka.  The Sinharaja forest is home to many rare animals, birds, butterflies, insects, reptiles and trees. Ferns and mosses grow well as the climate is humid because of heavy rainfall.  The average height of trees in the Sinharaja varies between 35 to 40 metres. Some trees above 50 metres.

  The Internet is a source of knowledge. It is of very recent origin. However the influence it has on society is immeasurable. The scope is very wide. It is known the word over. It is easily accessible to everyone. Knowledge has got a new dimension with the introduction of the internet. An internet user has access to a lot  of knowledge and information. A book for example is read serially one sentences after the other. Words are written horizontally or vertially. If we want to read a book, and listen to music at the same time, we have to use two separate sources for that. But the internet has brought the two together for us. You must have seen people working at the computer listening to music.  When producing a book, the weight and size play an important role. That is why dictionaries and encyclopedias come in volumes.   Our National flag is the Lion Flag. It has an emblem of an artistic lion on a maroon background. It has four colours; yellow, maroon, green and orange. The lion is holding a sword in its right paw and is facing the left towards the flag pole. In the four corners of the flag ther are four bo-leaves. The emblem of the lion is in yellow colour. Ther are two stripes of green and orange in the lion flag. They are on the left of the flag.  each element of the flag has a specific meanings. The leaves represent Buddhist loving kindness, compassion, equanimity and happiness. The lion represents bravery and the Sinhslees people. Clowns enjoy making people laught. It's their job. They like it. They paint their face and put on funny nose. They smile a lot, but here's a funny thing - when they are not smiling , the make - up on their faces makes them look sad. Mostly though, clowns smile and laugh, they also wear funny clothes and funny shoes. We see them most often in circuses. They run, jump, fall down turn somersaults and cartwheels, do handstand and bunny rolls. They ride donkeys backwards, push each other in wheelbarrows and pour flour and buckets of water over each other when they pretend to be angry. Clowns have to work hard, though. They must train to keep fit and active. They must work long hours but the pay is quit low for most of them. They are kind people usually and they sometimes give a show free to an orphans' home or a hospital. Sick children and old people too, usually feel better after seeing the clowns. In fact ther is a saying "Lauhhter is the best medicine'.

Bees have a way of 'talking' with one another, which they do not have to learn : that is ,it is an instinct. But the bees, language is a very strange one; it is a language of smells and of dancing. When a worker bee, searching around in a field ,finds a flower with sugary nectar in it, soon afterwards many other bees are on the spot collecting the sweet liquid from similar flowers. The same is true for a worker which bring pollen home to the hive from a flower. How does the first bee which has discovered the nectar or the pollen, tell the others of the find? It informs the other bees of the discovery by means of a dance. This has been found out by marking bees with tiny spots of coloured paint so that separate bees can be recognized. In the investigation, sa soon as a worker bee was observed in the act of discovering nectar or pollen, the investigation caught her, marked her with a coloured paint spot and freed her again.  The Wicked Crow and the Innocent Sparrow Once there were two friends in the forest - a sparrow and a crow. One day while hunting for food they saw some red chillies spread on a mat to dry. The crow spoke to the sparrow and said "Let's find out who can eat the most number of chillies first. The one who loses has to agree to whatever the winner says." The sparrow agreed and they started eating the chillies. But the crow cheated. For every Chillie he ate he hid three others under the mat.When all  the chillies were finished the crow said, "I ate more chillies than you did. I am the winner. You must now agree to whatever I say". Then the crow jumped at the sparrow and said "I am going to eat you now". "All right",said the sparrow."But you must wash your beak before you eat me". I have many teachers throughout my school life who have guided me and moulded me into a fine student. I'm ever so grateful to all of them who have shown me the correct path in life. I shall always remember them with gratitude and whish them good health and happiness throughout their life. There was one teacher who impressed me a lot out of all of them. She was Mrs. Amaya Senevirathna. Engllish, being my favourite subject i always had a special interest in learning the subject. The English teacher whome i met in grade eight was a very special one. She was very smart and always well dressed. She had short hair and very pleasent manner of talking. She was a very strict teacher but knew her subject well. When she enters the class room we all stand up and greet her. She receproccates our greeting with a smile.
